Lemon Painted Glassware Project
Monday, April 23, 2001
Supplies:
  • DecoArt Ultra Gloss Enamel Paints:
    • Gloss White
    • Gloss Black
    • Chocolate
    • Cadmium Yellow
    • True blue
    • Christmas Green
  • Brushes:
    • #4 Shader
    • 3/0 Liner
  • glassware of choice
  • paper towels
  • water container
  • vinegar
  • plate to put paint on, I use a lid to a tub or jar
Instructions:

  • Keep in mind the paint is to be used on surfaces that will NOT come into contact with food.
  • Clean glassware thoroughly, with warm soapy water, then rinse with warm vinegar water, you want to remove any oily residue. Also while working make sure that your hands are clean and oil free, try not to touch the surface you will be painting with your fingers.
  • Tape your pattern on the inside of the glass.
  • Use the Yellow Ultra gloss and your #4 shader to paint in the lemon
  • DO NOT thin the paints with water. After washing out your brush make sure that the brush is dry before continuing.
  • Using the True blue, paint the ribbon. I have found that it is best to try and complete each shape with a single stroke, if you can’t, make sure that the first coat of paint is dry before applying the second coat.
  • Paint in the ivy with Christmas Green.
  • Use Chocolate Ultra Gloss to join the ivy leaves creating a vine.
  • Use the Gloss White and your liner to create the sections of the lemon and the pith between the peel and the fruit. Also highlight areas of the ribbon and ivy.
  • Use you liner and Gloss Black to create shadowing under the ivy and make a few out lines on the lemons. Also shadow the ribbon some.
  • Let the paint air dry 7 days before hand washing, (DO NOT SOAK) or you can place the glassware in the oven and turn it to 325 degrees, let it bake for 30 minutes, after the oven has heated. This will make the glassware dishwasher safe. All these instructions are on the bottles of paint.
  • I think this is a great way to create your own one of a kind glassware and put a personal touch into any home.
  • Have fun and use your imagination! DAZ
